Moving to Denmark as Told by Mean Girls

Hello, my name is Jara and I am a basic millennial girl. Now that we got that out of the way, I love Mean Girls. I find the movie can be quoted in almost every situation you are in & imagine my surprise when I realized how accurate it sums up my move to Denmark. And since this week was a Mean Girls holiday, I figured why not share my interpretation of moving to Denmark as told by Mean Girls!

The days leading up to your flight you force anyone to come with you to Target to stock up on essentials aka over the counter medicine.

Everyone when you are heading to the airport & saying your goodbyes.

You realize you live in a country of tall gorgeous women & you are, well you.

Anytime you leave the house you feel like you have a sign over your head that says "foreigner"

The chance you think you have to warm up but then you realize summer is actually cold & rainy

At any moment you will just cry about the smallest things out of frustration, confusing & exhaustion. (let's revisit the time I cried about making dinner that didn't taste right)

When someone from home asks you how "it's going" after you have spent a few days doing nothing and you can't let people know your week was bad because then they will say "oh so you aren't happy there?!"

Going to the grocery with an American recipe & trying to figure out what you actually need...have you seen the milk/yogurt section?

When everyone around you is speaking Danish so you try to fit in with the few words you know

When you need to talk to someone about the challenges & successes you have made in your new life but your "home friends" don't really get it and you haven't made a strong enough group here

You decide it is time to settle into your new life so you go out on friend dates so you can actually have friends.

Waiting for your Family Reunification Visa to get approved & reading forums about other peoples horrifying experiences

Trying to learn Danish & do your homework but you honestly have NO IDEA what is happening

Running to your already established in Denmark expat friends when you are trying to figure out where you can find certain things, what things are called here or really anything that is out of the ordinary.
